Create a desktop version of Yoodoo

Update – December 2024:
I’ve decided to put the desktop version on hold until 2026. The main reason? Developing a desktop version takes a lot of time and resources, and as a solo indie developer, I need to prioritize what makes the biggest impact right now.

My focus for 2025 is on making the current mobile apps as amazing as they can be. Once they’re at their best, I’ll shift my attention to bringing Yoodoo to desktop and web. Thanks for your patience—it’s on the roadmap, and I can’t wait to share it with you when the time comes!

Yoodoo V.4 Update is coming October 2026. It’s our biggest update ever with a completely overhauled Yoodoo. Desktop, 2 brand new iOS and Android apps, and EVERYTHING all our users have asked for and MORE. It’s looking to be the BEST ADHD DAILY PLANNING APP EVER. No joke! (i feel like Trump typing this), but seriously, it’s PHENOMENAL!

I've got big news. A brand new Yoodoo launches in 30 days.

I've been using it every single day, and honestly? It's the Yoodoo I always dreamed of building.

It adjusts your day when things change. It brings you back when you drift. It locks you in. No guilt, no heavy thinking. Just a plan that works with you and makes you feel great about your day.

For me web app even more than desktop app would be invaluable, would love to be able to have a tab open on my work computer instead of needing to look at my phone

Got ya. So yes, by this I mean web-app. If you have a Mac you can fire up the iOS mac version and it displays as a lil widget on the homescreen. So that’s a cool lil shortcut.

The web-app is gonna take a long time so gonna have to park this for a while as I do not have the funds at the moment - it’s looking like a 8+ month job. So it’s better for me to prioritise the apps for now, as there is a tonne of really awesome stuff on its way that would be better to test first.

2-Way calendar sync should help with seeing and planning Yoodoo tasks via external calendars.

I’m hoping some innovation in tech might help me make this quicker by the middle of the year, but until then it’s gonna have to be stalled for a bit. Annoying, but worth it for the new stuff on the way.

Please re-prioritize this. I feel that adoption of yoodoo is being hindered by lack of cross-platform access. Some of us need more than just the phone app…after all, our ADHD brains don’t all work best from just the phone app.

100% this! He has built an EXTRAORDINARY tool here, but I just can’t use it well because I cannot see well enough to only use it from my phone - and there are hundreds of reasons why others cannot use it on phone alone. I need it to be available on the web (and be sign-in based so that we can all use it across platforms. I know he has hesitated on this, but its critical for the app’s long-term success).

  totally get this, and it’s on the roadmap, but desktop literally requires an entire code overhaul, which simply is not feasible or cost effective at this stage. Maybe, when AI catches up (can rewrite code from Native app to desktop), then it can be done - but for now it’s not viable. FYI, if you have a macbook, you can totally download the iOS version to your macbook and use it on your macbook as a widget :) - for now this is the best I can do as I need to prioritise mobile features.

  I know it’s a lot of work and expense, and I get why you have to prioritize what you must as a small business. I wish I could work on a MacBook! Unfortunately I don’t know many companies that work on Macs that don’t specifically develop for Macs or work in graphics/design. I’ll hold out for when you are able to get this done - it REALLY is a great tool, Ross. It just can’t be the tool I use for my life if it can’t be accessed via web for my PC usage (also for readability for my aging eyeballs). Keep up the great work, though, and I’ll be looking forward to this eventually getting built!

I do like this, and it’s on the agenda for sure. It’s a mammoth task, as it requires a completely new build, however I think tech should catch up over the year and make it easy to do say in the middle of next year. I’ll be monitoring tech progress.

  (For me personally, getting proper two-way sync with Google calendar would fill some of the need for a desktop version, as that would at least still let me check my scheduled tasks on a desktop/other device if/whenever my phone is out of battery (hey ho -remembering to charge isn't always easy).)

For those asking for a desktop version, if you have a MacBook, you can actually download Yoodoo direct to your Mac via the app store, and it acts like a large widget for your home screen. Pretty cool. Because of this I will be holding off on this feature for a while - not to mention it's gonna cost me thousands to build (about £10k - which I don't have at the moment), plus the money I do have would be better spent on some other really cool stuff directly in the apps to make them even more effective for you, faster.

@Ross Macfarlane , thanks for all of your great work here! Very impressive. One issue I have is that I can’t seem to have both the YooDoo iPhone app on my mac and use it as well in my android phone. Is there a way to have one account that can be reflected in both ‘instances’?

  Hi Chris. This is a fair point, and something I'm looking to fix in the new year. I've avoided having a login to to make access instant, however the need arises more and more for a dual platform login so I'll make it happen for early next year

This is so critical for me. YooDoo is a great app, but it just won’t work to solve the problems you claim it will for me (and probably a lot of people like me) - my eyes are too bad to depend on the phone app alone, I absolutely need a web version so that I can do all the set up from the web, and utilize the phone app as my on-the-go version that keeps me on track when I am away from my huge screens. It’s so critical that I be able to see well what I’m doing to get this set up properly, I truly hope you get this on the roadmap and soon.

Having the ability to have custom notification ringtones in the app, because that way we know where it's coming from and be more inclined to look it at, especially if it's something important.

This is a screenshot of the Google calendar that I share with my wife. The events show in the app, but the task on top do not. It would be great if they did.

Did Yoodoo also add the address information for your listed events?

I think I would just use Yoodoo to plan and then, with the 2-way sync, use the Google Calendar to view the schedule. Go back to Yoodoo if big changes needed and then re-sync and use Google Calendar since it is much cleaner looking.
